Epsom salts are made up of a naturally occurring mineral that is found in water. More properly known as magnesium sulfate, Epsom salts derives its popular name from the town of Epsom, England, where the compound was first distilled from water. The chemical formula for Epsom salts is MgSO4-7H2O.

 

What are Epsom Salt?

Epsom Salt  is a chemical compound containing magnesium, sulfur and oxygen, with the formula MgSO4. It is often encountered as the heptahydrate epsomite (MgSO4·7H2O).

 

What are the uses of Epsom Salt?

  • Epsom salts are used in easing of stress and improvement of sleep and concentration.The healing benefits help to flush toxins, improve absorption of nutrients like magnesium and help muscles and nerves to function properly.
  • Epsom  salts are used in agriculture and gardening, magnesium sulfate is used to correct magnesium deficiency in soil, since magnesium is an essential element in the chlorophyll molecule. It is most commonly applied to potted plants, or to magnesium-hungry crops, such as potatoes, roses, tomatoes, peppers and cannabis.
  • Cleansing is also a common use for Epsom salts. Many people make use of Epsom salt compounds to exfoliate skin, applying a paste of Epsom salts with a little water to the skin, then rinsing with clean warm water.
  • Epsom salts can be used to partially clean the follicles, making it easier to comb and set the hair.
  • Constipation or irregularity, adults can mix 2 to 4 teaspoons into water until dissolved and drink. Kids 6 to 12 take half of that. This can be used twice a day by taking the first treatment, waiting 4 hours and taking the second dosage if necessary.
