What is the Difference between Disney World and Disneyland?


If you want to experience the fantasy of theme parks then you may think of going to the Disneyland or Disney World. You may be faced with the basic question of what is the difference between Disney World and Disneyland. Well both are fun and worth visiting and each offers a different experience. So it is basically a personal preference and depends on where you want to travel to.


What are the difference between Disney World and Disneyland?

The first difference between Disney World and Disneyland may be that of location. Disneyland Park was the first park of its kind which was started in Anaheim, California. The park is situated right in the middle of the busy city surrounded by residential and commercial stores. On the other hand Disney world is in the south western part of Orlando in Florida. Disneyland is about 2400 miles from Disney World taking roughly about forty hours to drive from one place to another.

Since then a number of Disneyland resorts have originated all over the world including Paris (Euro Disney), Tokyo, and Hong Kong. While the Disneyland Park in Tokyo operates under the license issued by “Oriental Land Company” but the ones operating in France and Hong Kong come under the purview of the Walt Disney Company.

Another difference between Disney World and Disneyland may be pertaining to size. Disneyland started off on an area of 85 acres in the year 1955. Presently it has an area of 430 acres but is still smaller than Disney World. In fact Disneyland is as small as the parking lot existing in the huge Disney World. Disneyland is the result of Walt Disney’s vision and imagination. He succumbed to lung cancer in the year 1966 after which the construction of the new Disney World commenced. Disney World is the bigger and newer version of Disneyland which opened in the year 1971 encompassing an area of 30,500 acres.

The facilities on offer in the play parks contribute to a major difference between Disney World and Disneyland. Disneyland is a charming old park and still operates rides such as Dumbo, King Arthur Carousel, Autopia, Disneyland Railroad and many more which are nearly fifty six years old. The resort has three hotels and comprises of Downtown Disney, Disney’s California Adventure and Disneyland Park.

Disney World has four expansive theme parks which include the Animal Kingdom, Disney Hollywood Studios, Epcot and the Magic Kingdom. Besides the vast area has twenty hotels, golf courses, horseback riding, two mini golf courses, two water parks Downtown Disney and many more varied attractions.

The castles built in the parks show a certain difference between Disney World and Disneyland. The castles in Disneyland have been modeled after castles depicted in Sleeping Beauty while Cinderella’s castle are depicted in Disney World.

Another difference between Disney World and Disneyland is the type of people visiting the parks. Disneyland is largely frequented by the locals. People visiting this place may be staying nearby, maybe driving just a couple of hours to reach this place. Disney World has a high percentage of tourists coming from the distant parts of the world. So people generally fly in or make a longer journey to reach Disney World.
