Diarrhea can be caused by  an infection or  indigestion. No matter what the cause it results in the body losing a lot of water leading to dehydration. Extra care has to be taken to make sure fluids are being constantly pumped into the body otherwise one could end up in the hospital due to dehydration.

What food to eat when we have diarrhea?

The food should be very light and easy to digest. 

Many things can trigger diarrhea including diet, medications or other medical conditions. It is important to watch what you eat if you have diarrhea since diarrhea can cause dehydration.

  • Drink atleast 8 to 10 glass of water to avoid dehydration, when you have diarrhea.
  • Eat bananas when you have diarrhea.
  • Apples are a good source of pectin. The high fiber in raw apples makes them too rough for a our intestinal system. Cooking the apples makes them easier  to digest, thus allowing us to benefit from the pectin, sugar and other nutrients that lie within.
  • Yogurt is good during diarrhea, but other diary products should be avoided when you have diarrhea.
  • Steamed  chicken soup is good source of protein and provides fliuds during diarrhea, providing good nutrients to the body.
  • Peppermint and chamomile tea are also good when you have diarrhea.

 

What food should be avoided during diarrhea?

  • Foods with a high fat content can speed up intestinal contractions and cause a reaction to a system that is already sensitized. Therefore, try not to eat anything that is greasy, fried, creamy, or covered in gravy.
  • Alcohol,caffeine and carbonated beverages should be avoided when you have diarrhea.
  • laxative effect and contribute to gases and  bloating.
