What is the history or origin of Neti pot?

Neti pot is a device used for irrigating nasal passages; and are made of clay, glass, plastic, ceramic and various metals. Most of the popular Neti pots are made up of ceramic that look like a combination of a tea pot and Aladdin’s magic lamp with a spout and handle. The term Neti pot originated from the ancient Indian practice of Ayurveda/yoga known as "jala neti". It is one of the six purification techniques performed prior to practicing yoga. How Neti pot works?

How to use a Neti pot?

•  The saline water prepared at home should not be too hot or too cold, it should be warm.
•  The salt added to the water should be stirred well and it should be in limited quantities as too little and too much salt can end up stinging the nose. 5 g of salt for 500 ml water should make a good mixture
•  Pour that saline mixture in to the Neti pot
•  Raise your head to the side and insert the Neti pot spout into your upper nostril.
•  Pour a good amount through one nostril and repeat the same with the other nostril.
•  Breathe out your mouth as it will help you relax.
•  When the procedure is finished, remove the excess water from the nose by breathing out easily.
•  Do not hold your nostrils tightly as it can send water to the areas where it cannot be dried so easily.

What are the different types of Neti pots available in markets?

Many varieties of Neti pots are available in the market, such as Neti pots made of hard plastic where the flow of saline solution is totally dependent on gravity. Then there are Neti pots that are made out of flexible plastic, where the user can control the pressure and the flow of saline solution by squeezing the pot like a bulb syringes, and others include Neti pots that have a mechanical pump built into them, and pump the saline through the nasal passage at a constant rate and pressure.
