Children love surprises and a treasure hunt can be a great surprise. Treasure hunt game is easy to do and children love the adventure of going on a quest for treasure. Treasure hunts can be made very elaborately or very simply that depends on you and the children. Kids like this game to do together or alone. During holidays usually children get bored of playing same things, this boredom can drive even the parents crazy after a while. So this treasure hunt is fun event for the whole family even for the person who is creating the treasure hunt.

What are the things you will need?

  • A treasure “ chest “- a treasure chest can be an cardboard box or even shoe boxes that has been sanded and decorated with gold spray paint just for the attraction and fun.
  • Booty – the best part of this game is actually finding the booty! It may be chocolate coins, candy necklace, ring pops or other small inexpensive toys. Be creative.
  • Eye patches - treasure hunt without a pirate’s eye patch? No way! Pirate’s eye patch is very important to make kids happy because kids normally fascinated to things like this. This can be purchased or you can easily create your own out of black construction paper or felt and backyard. Make sure each kid has an eye patch.
  • Treasure map – this treasure map is most important of the whole treasure hunt. Create a fun treasure map by using a black marker on a large white thick sheet. Mark the path to where your treasure will be

How to make a perfect plan?

First hide the treasure chest, if you are really interested you can even dig a small hole in the lawn and truly bury it. And keep a small digging device near so the children can use it when they want to. Break the children up into small groups. Give each child a map and set a timer for five minutes, you can do this without any timer also. In case if the kids have not found the treasure by the end of that time period, give a clue to each of them. Continue this process until the entire treasure is found.

What type of treasure should you use?

There is no right treasure to use, it is all about the game and fun, you can use junk food, real money, cold drinks, soft toys, etc. if you want to make this game as a memorable one then you can get pencil boxes, assemble a boat prop, nice kids costumes which is inexpensive, nice pencils set with sharpener, eraser, etc.

Make sure this treasure hunt is not a taking long time, then kids tend to get bored. Five places to go to find the clues to take the kids to treasure are good enough. And also make sure there is enough treasure for each kid involved. Plan it nicely and enjoy with kids.
