Houston, Texas is one of the big cities of US and has many exciting things to do with the kids. Houston is home to 2 million population from various backgrounds and cosmopolitan. Space center Houston has both historic and the modern mission control centers. Kids can have get a feel for real life aerospace facilities. The center has interesting museum exhibits like space flight, history of NASA, solar system etc. Kids can experience the forces of gravity, wind and simulated astronaut activities. Astronauts undergo training for new missions at this Space center. Kids can even learn the progress and the history of space exploration and watch documentaries at the theater. There are original replicas of Goddard rocket, Gemini V spacecraft and the Apollo 17 command module. It has several fun attractions like Space center theater, Blast off theater and one can experience how it feels to be in Space.
Lake Houston Wilderness Park: It is located about 30 minutes from the north of downtown Houston. This is a perfect heavily forested lakeside park for the kids to enjoy climbing trees, riding bikes and playing in the woods. For canoeing and kayaking equipment is not given on lease. Hiking, horse riding and bicycling are the most famous activities.
Houston Zoo: In 1900 around 900 species were in this zoo but now it is a home for more than 4000 creatures. You can see apes, monkeys, lions, tigers, giraffes, elephants, bears, birds, snakes and even a white alligator. For kids there is Mc Govern children’s zoo where 40 animal exhibits are designed in order to make them understand the animal habitats. The interesting things for the kids are crawling through underground tunnels, pop up into skylight domes, and walk through Texas style forest, to learn about farm animals, they can feed goats, sheep, pigs and other domestic animals.
Kemah Boardwalk: It is 20 miles from downtown Houston. It gives visitors carnival like atmosphere. It is 35 acre recreation area with several restaurants, Ferris wheel, wooden roller coaster, train rides, a carousel, an arcade, a 50,000 gallon aquarium, shopping, street performers and midway games. Kids can also enjoy boat rides and fishing trips.
Cockrell Butterfly center: It is located at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, which is a three story glass building and an inbuilt waterfall of 50 feet height with exotic plants, flowers and several other species and makes it look like rain forest. And kids can learn about these different species of butterfly family and outside they can climb the beehives, and learn about exhibits on insects.
Splash Town: It is located on the north of Houston and has raft rides, pools, slides, Rip qurl, dark tunnels etc. Kids can enjoy the splash in the pools, can zoom down the water slides, float around lazy river etc.
Discovery Green Park: It is a huge park near downtown Houston and is a great place for kids to have fun. It has huge lawns, children’s playground, dog run’s, jogging trail, large lake, water features, two restaurants, ice skating rink and wireless internet is also available.
Houston museum of Natural science: It is a great place where kids can learn about natural science, dinosaurs. It has a Paleontology hall, Energy hall and African wild life exhibit. Within a walking distance from this place you also have Children’s Museum of Houston where kids learn about finances and how money works.
Rattle Tattle Children’s Boutique: It is famous for children’s clothing and you can also find toys like Blues Clues, Groovy Girl Dolls, Franklin the Turtle. Kids can also watch videos and dance to the music, this place entertains kids to enjoy.
Houston being a big city there is no dearth of restaurants or hotels here. If you are a Staek fan then,Pappas Bros. Steakhouse at Galleria Houston is pricey but offers excellent and quick meals. For a good burger joint, Pappa’s Burger has some of the best hamburgers. International food is served at the Niko Niko’s which has Greek and Mediterranean food. The main feature of this restaurant is, it is very kid friendly. Star Pizza, Baba Yega restaurant is another place where you can get American delicatessen, and Vegetarian food. At Ninfa’s on Navigation you get Mexican food.
Some of the Houston hotels are Crowne Plaza Suites, Houston Sugar Land. Its main features are clean rooms, great hospitality and easy access to attractions and restaurants. Super 8 IAH West/Greens point which is near to the airport and to the north of downtown Houston has easy access to Beltway 8. It has great value. If you are going to Space center then Econo lodge at NASA is a good choice. It has clean rooms, staff is friendlyand a good value. Durry Inn and Suites Houston Hobby are also close to NASA and located near the Hobby airport.
