Not happy with your lips. Don’t despair for there are great innovations taking place in the field of cosmetic dermatology. A variety of dermal fillers are available for lip augmentation. So if you want better looking and sexy lips, there is treatment available to fulfill your desires. The innovation is that of lip augmentation with Restylane which is available at a reasonable cost requiring minimum time and minimal surgical procedures.

What is Restylane?

Restylane is a kind of crystal clear gel that is quite long-lasting and used to fill out lips, facial folds and wrinkles. The gel is injected or filled directly below the skin surface. It integrates with the underlying dermal tissue and binds to water molecules to maintain the volume. The hyaluronic acid used in Restylane is slightly modified and is almost similar to the natural acid found in the body. The hyaluronic acid  is a crystal clear gel known as NASHA (Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid). It is biodegradable and biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid. The new Restylane is not based on animal hyaluronic acid; therefore Restylane is safe and biologically degradable.

Restylane has been used in Europe for facial rejuvenation and lip augmentation since several years and is now easily accessible for use in the United States also. The Food and Drug Administration in U.S. has passed its approval, in December 2003, for the use of Restylane as cosmetic filler. What remains to be seen is the safety and efficiency of the use of Restylane for lip augmentation and other cosmetic procedures.

What are the uses of Restylane?

Restylane enhances lips and smoothens wrinkles almost instantly. Restylane lips are a boon for those who want to improve the contour and definition of the lips for a better appearance. A single procedure with Restylane can provide a natural enhancement of the lips. Products like Restylane are filler substances that are injected to acquire various results:

  • To fill depressed facial areas usually appearing at the corner of the mouth
  • To enhance lips and improve the look by providing a fuller lip
  • To redefine the border of the lips and filling the small grooves to eliminate the phenomenon of ‘bleeding’ lipstick.
  • To fill smile line folds and thereby providing fullness to the area
  • To fill nasolabial folds and improve appearance
  • To improve contouring of the facial areas such as mouth and cheeks

What are the side effects of Restylane?

Restylane is a relatively safe procedure when used in the treatment of wrinkles and folds around the mouth and nose. Restylane is made of hyaluronic acid that is biodegradable. Over a period of time the product gets degraded without leaving any trace in the body. The results are instantly noticeable and generally last for a period of about six months.

Regarding Restylane lips, some side effects may occur as is possible with any cosmetic treatment. The potential side effects may include bruising, redness, pain, swelling and feeling of tenderness in the treated area. Some of these side effects may appear infrequently and usually disappear within a couple of days. Some patients could have headaches, nausea or flu like symptoms. In rare cases patients could experience muscle weakness that could last a few days to months.

The good thing about Restylane lips is that the patient may require only one session of the Restylane injection to achieve the desired result. However the number of sessions and the efficacy of the procedure may be dependent on various conditions such as the skin type, the patient’s age, the extent of treatment, and so on.
