Bunting is a fabric which is traditionally decorated with national colors. It is also the term used for the woolen cloth used in the making of flags.

What is the History of Bunting Fabric?

Bunting fabric is an antique type of thin fabric constructed out of worsted parallel weave wool that was used in the creation of flags for the Royal British Navy. The fabric was a popular choice for this application due to its light weight density that allowed the flag to catch the breeze as well as the parallel weave of worsted wool that contributed to strength and the flags ability to wave with grace in the traditional undulation motion associated with a flying flag. Today bunting has taken on a much more generic term that is used to describe ornamentation that is meant to look like decorative fabric (though the actual construction material does not have to be cloth and can be anything from plastic to cardboard). One of the most common forms of bunting is strings of brightly colored plastic triangles that flap in the breeze.

How is a Bunting prepared?

Bunting is usually draped with the national colors is the more common meaning and it is a decorative ornament made of cloth, polyester, nylon, plastic or paper which can be hung from railings, decks, doorways, windows and rooftops. Bunting can come in many shapes including rolls, triangles, pennants, miniature flags, small pleated fans, stick flags, towels, table skirts and even rugs. It is usually used in patriotic and festive celebrations in the form of draperies, wide streamers, banners, etc. Basically, bunting can be a duplication of any flag, so it doesn't necessarily have to represent a national flag. It can be made to reproduce any flag you want. Some bunting also comes in plain colors with no design on it. It is common to see patriotic bunting adorning porches and railings at people's houses during parties and other social events. For some patriots bunting may be seen all year round. It is also commonly used at public events celebrating holidays and at political conventions and rallies.

What are the recommendations for Bunting?

If you use bunting it's recommended that you don't use the paper kind as it's not waterproof so it will not stay for a long time, but it looks exactly like a fabric one and this type of bunting is a good project for kids If you get a strongly made fabric or plastic bunting it should last you for a few years.
