What is Astro Turf?

  • Astro turf is an artificial grass used for sport fields and neighbourhood lawns. Installing astro turf is very easyand can be installed in any size.
  • In the 1950s and 1960s many industries struggled to found a new sport surface in order to improve fitness of the body.
  • Finally Monsanto Industries developed astro turf which is known as fake grass.
  • Manufacturing of astro turf was done by tufting machines and polyester was used as backing material for which blades are attached.
  • Artificial turf is good-looking, durable one with low maintenance. When they are properly laid on the surface, it withstands rough activities with little tearing, puckering, or decay.
  • It has good cushioning, resistant to weather drainage and flammability.
  • Astro turf is artificial grass so it doesn't require watering, fertilizing and reseeding.
  • Astro turf  is made from recycled products. Normally old tires and useless products are used to prepare astro turf.
  • Earlier astro turf looked like plastic grass but  many improvements have been made to them and  looks like real grass.
