What are Cassette Tapes?

  • Cassette tape is a magnetic tape that runs in between two small reels used for playing or recording audio signals. The magnetic tape is used for recording or playing. The long piece of magnetic tape is rolled around two rollers and the tape runs from one end of the roller to other end of the roller for playing or recording.
  • The first cassette tape was produced by Philips Company which plays or records at a speed of 1.7/8 inches per second.
  • Cassette tape is mainly manufactured by using polyester material and it is coated by magnetic residue. The cassette tape can be used in two ways that is used as playback device or it is used as self recorder.
  • Usage of magnetic tapes has been declined now a days so you can convert them in to digital signals which live everlastingly.
  • Cassette player and a cable are required which connects your player port to the pc for converting in to digital signals.
  • Audacity is software installed in the pc which is used for editing the recorded audio from cassette player. It is an easy installation, all you have to do is click on the preferences menu and view whether the channels are set to two. Next configure audacity in file formats tab for using LAME MP3 and then click on the library button where you will find a file lame_enc.dll.
  • Now place the tape in your cassette player and start playing so that you can hear the sound through your pc’s speakers. This is the way how you can digitalize your tape.
